During the nationwide protests of January 2026 (Dey 1404), Islamic Republic security forces opened fire on demonstrators, killing thousands. The regime imposed a total internet blackout and carried out a sweeping crackdown to conceal the true scale of the massacre from the world.

On February 2, 2026 (Bahman 13, 1404), the Presidential Office published a list of 2,986 names and declared the official death toll at 3,117. However, human rights organizations consider this figure to be a severe undercount:

  • Iran Human Rights (IHR): Considers estimates of 20,000–30,000 deaths plausible, and notes that nearly half of their independently verified victims are absent from the government list.
  • HRANA: Has confirmed 6,842 deaths with an additional 11,280 cases under investigation. Described the government list as "hastily compiled" and riddled with spelling errors, duplicate entries, and incomplete data.
  • Iran International: Has a verified list of 6,634 deaths, fewer than 100 of whom appear on the official government list.

This tool enables a direct comparison between the government's published list and community-sourced databases, revealing discrepancies, unreported names, and data quality issues in the official record. Our goal: no name should be forgotten.
