Iranian state media reported on Saturday, 2 Aban, that Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, had met with Mojtaba Khamenei, the Islamic Republic’s third leader. The report comes after President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had also claimed to have met with him. Two senior security officials from the Islamic Republic told Reuters that Tehran has developed detailed plans to target undersea communications cables in the Persian Gulf, which could be carried out if the United States and Israel attack Iran again. Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, has called on victims of human rights violations, their families, human rights defenders, civil society organizations, and experts to submit information and documentation for her next report to the 64th session of the UN Human Rights Council. According to Axios, and based on an “unclassified” intelligence memo dated 1 Aban (23 October) and addressed to U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned of “significant progress” in Iran’s plans to assassinate American officials and citizens in the Middle East and other regions. The document stresses that information about these threats should reach a broader range of staff at risk. To that end, Clayton has proposed lowering the classification level of these documents.
