The judiciary of the Islamic Republic has announced the execution of Majid Adineh, another person arrested during the Dey 1404 protests in Karaj. According to a Tasnim report citing the judiciary, the sentence was carried out on the morning of Sunday, 1 Shahrivar 1405. Majid Adineh was arrested on 19 Dey 1404 in the Mohammadshahr area of Karaj. Judicial officials have claimed that, at the time of his arrest, he was carrying a handgun, three magazines, 30 bullets, two electric stun guns, two tear-gas canisters, a cordless chainsaw, and a bottle of gasoline. The judiciary has called the Dey protests a “coup,” in line with the Islamic Republic’s official narrative, and accused Adineh of cooperating with the United States, Israel, and what it described as “hostile groups.” The Karaj Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death and confiscated his property on charges of “moharebeh through intentional arson,” under the law known as the “Law to Intensify Punishments for Espionage and Cooperation with the Zionist Regime and Hostile Countries.” No information has been released about whether Adineh had access to a lawyer of his choosing, the course of the proceedings, when the trial was held, or how his statements were obtained. The execution of Majid Adineh comes amid the continued implementation of death sentences against people arrested during the Dey protests. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, says that, in the Iranian government’s view, any country that joins the United States in imposing further economic restrictions on Iran will be considered an “enemy,” and threatened that such countries would be targeted in an attack.
