@ VahidHeadline 📡 @VahidOnline

Oman’s foreign minister announced the postponement of a meeting between Iran and the Gulf and regional countries. The meeting was scheduled for Monday, 23 Shahrivar, in Salalah, Oman, with the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as its focus. On Sunday, 22 Shahrivar, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi wrote on X that the meeting had been postponed “in order to reach a consensus.” He stressed that Oman remains committed to strengthening dialogue that contributes to “stability and lasting cooperation in the region.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier said he would attend the eight-party meeting of foreign ministers from countries bordering the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in Salalah on Monday. The meeting was expected to discuss a proposal by Iran and Oman to establish a mechanism for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The postponement was announced after the United States had said it would not take part in negotiations concerning the Strait of Hormuz and that any direct talks with the Islamic Republic would focus on the nuclear issue. U.S. officials have told regional countries that Washington will not negotiate over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and that the main subject of any potential talks with Tehran should be the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also said the Strait of Hormuz should not be under the Islamic Republic’s control and that the United States would take action to ensure the security of shipping along this route. Iran and Oman, meanwhile, have sought to involve regional countries in discussions about a mechanism for ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The results of consultations between Tehran and Muscat on safe shipping routes were due to be presented to regional countries at the meeting. @VahidHeadline 📡 @VahidOnline
