In a message attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, the declared third leader of the Islamic Republic, he referred to the violation of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States and stressed that this had once again demonstrated “the worthlessness and invalidity of the U.S. president’s signature.” Mojtaba Khamenei also accused the United States of “warmongering,” writing: “Now that the American enemy is seeking to foment war, bear even heavier costs, and suffer further disgrace, let it know that the dear people of Iran and the Resistance Front have unforgettable lessons in store for it.”

Message from the Supreme Leader of the Revolution on the great outpouring of support for Iran’s martyred leader and an explanation of important national issues
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
O great and astonishing people of Iran!
Greetings, praise, and thanks to you, who, through your unparalleled and historic outpouring at the unprecedented farewell for Iran’s martyred leader, set a new standard for the manifestation of a rising spirit and the firm resolve of Iran’s Islamic-Iranian identity—in gratitude, loyalty, insight, and extraordinary affection for the leader of the Islamic community and the martyred leader of the Revolution.
The warmth of hearts ablaze, tearful eyes, and resolute determination of tens of millions of people, gathered across dozens of miles in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, and other cities and villages, moved Iran’s friends and the free people of the world to admiration, while filling the arrogant enemies of the Iranian people with astonishment, confusion, anger, and fear.
At the same time as this great outpouring, the Great Satan’s repeated breaches of its commitments under the memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States once again proved to everyone just how worthless and invalid the U.S. president’s signature is, and that bullying, totalitarianism, and savagery are inseparable parts of the American creed and conduct.
Today, the Great Satan has once again revealed its true, unmasked face, making this dark record of crimes and broken promises further conclusive proof of America’s deceitfulness, irrationality, untrustworthiness, and wickedness.
Now that the American enemy is seeking to foment war, bear even heavier costs, and suffer further disgrace, let it know that the dear people of Iran and the Resistance Front have unforgettable lessons in store for it. The valor of the warriors of Islam and the courage of the people of the South in recent days are examples of this.
It must be said to you, loyal and proud people of Iran, that among the most fundamental matters at this juncture is insisting on unity of purpose and sacred solidarity at every level—among the people and officials alike, and in every sphere—in order to realize the lofty ideals of the Islamic Revolution and secure the dignity and independence of our beloved Iran, particularly in the face of the criminal and deceitful American enemy.
As has been repeatedly and emphatically stated before, preserving unity and avoiding division and conflict, political disputes, and the highlighting of social differences is everyone’s duty. The role of officials and of those devoted to the Revolution, the Imam, and the martyred leader in maintaining the country’s cohesion and unity is, of course, more important and sensitive.
Accordingly, the dear people, while continuing to trust the conscientious officials in all three branches of government, whose efforts for the people’s welfare and prosperity are evident, will remain vigilant and active in the field to ensure the protection of the interests of Islamic Iran.
Some may, with complete sincerity and out of goodwill, have criticisms of the performance of certain officials. In my view, while their concern for the system—which they regard as their own—is a valuable asset and in itself a positive thing, these dear people, some of whom are among the pioneers of insight, must take care, first, not to wrong an innocent person, as that itself can lead to being deprived of blessings and favor. Second, they must ensure that this approach does not undermine unity and social cohesion. If these considerations are observed, criticism will help matters flourish and thrive.
The enemy must not see any sign of weakness in us, including this kind of weakness. Whenever we fully observe these precautions, the enemy will have no choice but to retreat.
Once again, I sincerely thank each and every one of the dear people who, despite the difficulties, certain restrictions, and hardships surrounding the great farewell for Iran’s martyred leader—whose mourning they themselves share as the people who lost the father of the community—created a historic outpouring of support.
I also thank the esteemed religious authorities, scholars, thinkers and intellectuals, cultural, social, and political activists, and the organizations and personnel of the civilian and military institutions for their actions and efforts. I am also grateful for the presence of officials and representatives of the proud Resistance Front and the honored Islamic movements.
May all those who, in any way, took part in, supported, and stood in solidarity during this historic outpouring receive the special favor and prayers of our master, may God hasten his reappearance.
Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei
