The Karun Human Rights Organization has reported an increase in the number of political and ideological prisoners at Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, saying that more than 600 people are being held in different units of the prison. Many of these prisoners were arrested in the wave of arrests following the 40-day war between Iran, the United States, and Israel. A significant number of the newly arrested are young people, most of them between 18 and 25 years old, and the majority are from Ahvaz, Fallahiyeh (Shadegan), Izeh, Behbahan, and Masjed Soleiman. According to human rights sources, Islamic Republic of Iran border guards shot directly at a family’s car in the village of Dargi, in Sarvabad County, killing a 15-year-old child and severely injuring his father. Hengaw reported that on the evening of Thursday, 18 Tir 1405 (July 9, 2026), border regiment forces stationed in Dargi village opened fire without any prior warning on a family’s private car as they were returning home after finishing their day’s work in their cherry orchard. Hengaw reported that in the shooting, 15-year-old Sam Hasani was struck in the head by a bullet and died instantly, while his father, Ahsan Hasani, was severely wounded in the thigh. According to the organization, Sam Hasani’s body was taken to the morgue at Bu-Ali Hospital in Marivan, while Ahsan Hasani is receiving treatment at the same hospital. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network also confirmed the incident and reported a tightening security atmosphere in the border areas of Marivan, Paveh, Baneh, and Sardasht. Citing local sources, it said that in some of these areas, border guards and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have increased their military presence, imposed further restrictions on villagers’ movement, and in some cases prevented residents from accessing their own orchards and pastures. In recent years, gunfire by Islamic Republic military forces at civilians has repeatedly killed and wounded citizens, including children. Nine-year-old Kian Pirfalak, from Izeh, was shot and killed by Islamic Republic forces on the evening of 25 Aban 1401 while riding in a car with his family along a street in the city, in Khuzestan Province.
