Twelve Baha’i citizens have been sentenced by the Sari Revolutionary Court to a total of 26 years and 165 days in prison and 76 years of deprivation of social rights. According to a verdict issued on 29 Mordad 1405, Baha’i citizens Raquel Ataeian, Kiyumars Akbari, Sohrab Laghaei, Zahra Golabian, Banafsheh Asadian Arabi, Fouad Laghaei, Anahita Koshkbāghi, Nasim Samimi, Hossein Fanaeian, Emilia Fanaeian, Melody Samimi, and Soheil Haghdoost were sentenced by Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court, presided over by Ammar Ramezani. Under the ruling, Ms. Ataeian was sentenced to four years in prison and 10 years of deprivation of social rights. Each of the other defendants received a sentence of two years and 15 days in prison and six years of deprivation of social rights. The indictment accused the citizens of “conducting educational and propaganda activities contrary to and disruptive of the sacred laws of Islam, with the aim of promoting and encouraging the Baha’i faith.” Hearings on the charges against the citizens were held at the aforementioned branch on 10, 11, and 12 Mordad 1405. A source close to one of the Baha’i citizens, speaking to HRANA and confirming the report, described the proceedings in the case: “The first hearing on the charges against these citizens was held in Ordibehesht 1403 at Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court, presided over by Shoja Zoghi. Because of shortcomings in the investigation, the branch sent the case back to the prosecutor’s investigation branch three times. However, as the shortcomings were not addressed, the case was removed from the branch’s docket. It was then referred to Branch 104 of the Qaemshahr Criminal Court, presided over by Reza Majazi, where hearings were held on 21 and 22 Tir 1404.” The source added: “During these proceedings, Soheil Haghdoost and his wife, Raquel Ataeian, were arrested and could not attend the hearings. After being temporarily released, they were tried separately from the other defendants. The criminal court then issued an order declining jurisdiction and referred the case back to Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court. After holding three hearings, that branch ultimately issued its verdict.” The source also said: “Raquel Ataeian faced a new judicial case during her arrest last year. By order of Branch 104 of the Qaemshahr Criminal Court, proceedings in that case were merged with this one, and ultimately both cases resulted in verdicts from Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court.” Previously, the final-defense hearings for these 12 Baha’i citizens had been held separately in Esfand 1402 at Branch Six of the Qaemshahr Prosecutor’s Office investigation division, presided over by Reza Majazi. Before that, security forces had searched their homes, and the individuals had been notified through separate text messages that judicial cases had been opened against them at the Qaemshahr Prosecutor’s Office. hra_news 📡 @VahidOnline
