@ VahidHeadline 📡 @VahidOnline

Lawyers for Wurishah Moradi announced on Wednesday, 22 Mehr, that Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court—which had previously sentenced the political prisoner, held in Evin Prison, to death on charges of “membership in a rebellious group”—has upheld its original death sentence despite the Supreme Court’s request to review “deficiencies in the investigation.” Amir Sajjadi and Keyvan Azizi, Moradi’s lawyers, told Emtedad that on Wednesday, 22 Mehr, they went to Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court and received the ruling issued by the branch. Under the ruling, they have 20 days to appeal to the Supreme Court. They said the sentence was issued even though the Supreme Court’s reviewing branch had overturned Branch 15’s earlier death sentence against Moradi after raising serious questions about the investigation. But Branch 15, without carrying out the investigation requested by the Supreme Court, simply changed the charge and again sentenced Ms. Moradi to death for membership in a rebellious group. Amir Sajjadi said, “In the lawyers’ view, there is no sufficient and compelling evidence to support this charge against Wurishah Moradi.” He stressed: “Ms. Moradi had absolutely no involvement in any operation against the Islamic Republic. Her activities were solely related to her fight against ISIS in northern Syria.” Keyvan Azizi said Moradi’s lawyers would appeal within the legal deadline and expressed hope that “the Supreme Court, as it did the previous time, will give due consideration to the defense arguments and objections.” Wurishah Moradi, who is currently held in Evin Prison, was arrested on 10 Mordad 1402 on the outskirts of Sanandaj. On 5 Dey of the same year, after her interrogation was completed, she was transferred from the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center—known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison—to the women’s ward. On 20 Aban 1403, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death on charges of “baghi” (armed uprising against the government). In an open letter from prison, she revealed that during her detention she had been subjected to physical and psychological torture, threats of execution, and gender-based violence. @ VahidHeadline 📡 @VahidOnline
